Responsability is doing stuff because stuff needs to be done and you don't deserve a cookie for it
2026-05-25But don't take it the wrong way. All I mean is that if you do your responsabilities waiting for a cookie, you won't do them when you learn that a cookie is almost never involved.
Let's start with the basics: paying bills/taxes.
You gotta pay it. We can debate whether it's fair or not, but you gotta pay it. We might not want to pay it, but you gotta pay it. We might even not have the means to pay it, but you gotta pay it.
Not out of a capitalist/christian sense of righteousness, but because there's consequences to not paying them and you DO NOT WANT THEM.
You can pay your bills/taxes and then go do something for them to be more fair in a greater sense, like taxing the rich, BUT YOU STILL GOTTA PAY THEM.
Like getting out of the bed to do your chores when you don't feel you don't have the means to, because if you don't there's consequences.
And let me be completely honest here: if you are not feeling the material consequences of neglecting your responsabilities IT'S BECAUSE SOMEONE IS DEALING WITH YOUR RESPONSABILITIES FOR YOU.
You gotta be responsible with your feelings even if the world doesn't reward you.
You gotta be kind to people even if people aren't kind to you.
Life isn't a zero-sum game where you get something for every single thing you do.
Life isn't fair. Even if no one ever wrongs you, life itself will degrade around you if you don't do maintenance. Life isn't fair.
It's that plant you are always neglecting to water.
That pile of clothing you are always neglecting to fold and put away.
You gotta pay your bills, man.
Grow the fuck up. Take control of your life and act responsibly with yourself and your community.
Selflessness is not about being morally righteous, it's about raising no expectation that life owes you shit.
Because it doesnt.
